Turn it up or Tone it down?

Hey beauty freaks!

Hope everyone is doing well. I got some good feedback on the video so thank you again and keep watching! I’ve been jotting down your requests and suggestions and I’ll be sure to post another video soon. I’m thinking it’s gonna have to wait til the weekend because editing YouTube videos is A MUTHA. That damn iMovie had me wanting to smash my MacBook into a million pieces…

On to the polish! I have two looks for you today. I’m naturally drawn to vivid colors however I do like to tone it down every once in a while and this is what the first look is all about. I still have quite a few untrieds in my collection and so I decided to grab OPI’s I’m Fondue Of You (Oh OPI, you get me every time!).  I picked this baby up after seeing it on sale at the shop where I usually get my polish. Not too spectacular in the bottle but did I mention it was on sale? This shade went on super smooth and it looked nice but you already know I couldn’t leave well enough alone so I decided to dress it up with a feather and some rhinestones on the ring finger.

Grown up but fun

My next look is more off an attention grabber. I used Gold by Gosh, taped off my nails and painted the tips with Nero also by Gosh. Lastly I added a star to my ring finger  and voila!

I love stars, they make me think of my fiancé aka Jon

Enjoy,

Two new manis and a video...

Hey guys!!!

I hope you guys are doing well. I am doing awesome now that my kids are back. My little monsters have been out of town at their auntie’s for about 3 weeks so I was DYING to have them back. I can’t stop kissing them!

Well today is a holiday in my province (la Saint-Jean-Baptiste) and since my kids are back and I’m feeling quite festive I decided to do a mani inspired by the holiday. The quebecker flag is blue and white and though I didn’t have the right shade  of blue and that my fleur de lys stencil died on me I still  think this look is super cute. I used OPI’s Ogre The Top as my base color and some Konad special polish in white to print the lips using a Bundle Monster plate.

I have been getting some really sweet and encouraging feedback about this blog so I want to thank everyone who keeps up with me here (all 8 of you! lol – it’s still awesome to me) and on my twitter. Thank you for your kind words.

Okay so enough of the sentimental stuff. Let’s move on to the main event! Anyone who knows me for real knows that I love me some YouTube. I have learned so much from it that after a year or so of lurking I have finally recorded and posted my first YouTube video! This was a request for a smokey eye. I’m still working out the kinks but I think it came out okay being my first. I hope you enjoy and post some comments to let me know what you think.

Be gentle with the feedback cuz as Erykah Bady would say "I’m and artist and I’m sensitive about my sh@t." lol

What time is it?!? PROM TIME!!!

Hey guys!

Can’t believe it’s already been a week since I posted my last manicure! I’ve been busy as a bee with work and manicures of course. Okay so the first thing I wanna show you is another simple but bright look; all you need is OPI’s Who The Shrek Are You? or a color like it  (Sally Hansen’s Likety-Split Lime could also do the job). I'm all for jazzing things up with my manicures but every once in a while, a girl just wants to slap that lacquer on and call it a day. So that's exactly what I did with Who The Shrek Are You?  and I don't regret it. The color speaks volumes all on its own. Summer's here girls, now’s the time to break out those bold colors so don’t be scared and wear them proudly!

This color was so much fun to wear.

I also wanted to show you a look I did for my friend’s niece Stacy. She needed her nails done for prom and her dress had various shades of turquoise so we went with China Glaze’s Turned Up Turquoise and topped it off with Nicole by OPI’s Make A Comet-Ment. Turned Up Turquoise is an amazing color but I can't stand the matte finish on it (though I do enjoy matte nail polish), so Make a Comet-Ment was the perfect glitter to bring some shine and sparkle to our base color. Stacy also decided to go with purple and blue Fimo flowers on the thumb. I’m glad she like the finished look and it all tied in so well with her dress!

Enjoy!

Mani of the day and a mini haul...

Happy Friday beauty freaks!

The work week was painfully drab and mother nature seems to be going through some "thangs" out here in Montreal so I figured I'd liven things up with a bright mani. Orange and coral type colors are in this summer and OPI's Hot & Spicy (part of the Hong Kong collection) was calling my name so I went for it. Now I'm not one to follow trends but these types of colors just look so good in the summer because that's when most of us tan. Yes. Black people tan too. lol.

Hot & Spicy is a bit of a pain in the ass to apply because it does go on kinda streaky at first, but it all smooths out as you build up the color so a steady hand is the key to making this polish work for you. I used Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails/Hard as Wraps as a base (I'll review that in a few weeks), did 3 coats of Hot & Spicy and sealed the whole thing with Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri Anti Chip Top Coat (love that stuff, thanks Mims!). The color looked so yummy that I decided to add a few fimo slices on the accent nail. To make things even better, I got home from work to find that the mailman had left me a package. Ahhh feels like Christmas in June... Here are the glitters I ordered online along with a couple pretties I picked up today. I'll be doing a few looks with them soon so keep an eye out for that. Click on the pics for a closer look!

The mani of the day
 Don't you just love fimo?
My first bottle of Nubar in Nubar 2010.
This will jazz up any polish!
I loved Hot & Spicy so much that I decided to pick up another orange polish. This one is OPI's Ya'll Come Back Ya Hear? from the Texas collection. Awesome jelly and not as pink as H&S.
I saw Gilded Glitter on Google images and I knew I had to have it! Amazing over any color really, the flakes are gorgeous and for 2.99$ I couldn't pass it up. I ordered it online but if anyone knows where I can get these polishes in MTL just hit me up. Sharing is caring you know.
 NYX's Carnival
The name says it all.
 NYX's Dorothy
It's a black based glitter. I've seen pictures of it on it own and I see it's potential but it just looks way better over a dark base IMO.
 NYX's Enchanted Forest
I don't own anything like this so I guess that's what drew me in. I'm thinking about layering this over a bright yellow.
The ever so popular Shatter polish by OPI. Okay so it's white; no biggie but still nice to have. Thanks to my girl Fabs I was able to get my hands on the only color missing to make my Shatter collection complete.

Finally! My first blog entry!

Well hello and welcome to anyone who might have stumbled upon this page. I'm Vee and I'm incurably addicted to all things beauty. Makeup, nail art, hair, fashion, you name it, I love it! (lol) Okay so I've been lurking on YouTube beauty channels and beauty blogs for the past year or so but it felt like it was finally time to start a blog of my own. So I'll be talking about the products I'm using, doing reviews, tutorials, nails of the day and random ramblings about life in general. I'm looking forward to interacting with other beauty junkies and I hope to learn as much as I can about beauty in general.

Since this post is basically just an intro I figured I'd end it with some nail porn. Here's the back story: I went from rarely doing my nails to going through a major polish addiction in just a few months (much to my fiance's chagrin *I love you Hun!*). I knew that I wanted to eventually start a blog so I started taking pics of my manicures as I did them. I hope to keep getting better at this whole nail art thing. Love it!

* Forgive the quality of the pics, I'm still working on that!

I LOVE OPI DS Original, it's the first holo I've ever owned.
My first successful attempt at water marbling.
Those aren't my hands but it was my handy work! :)
I was mad at my mom and ended up taking it out on my mani
Black Shatter with China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise *wipes drool*
I'm telling you that damn Shatter does it EVERY TIME! ha!
I'm not really into sheer nail polish but OPI's Significant Other Color is a beauty that my sister Yaya gave me. Subtle but pretty.
 Easter themed mani
OPI's Merry Midnight + Hello Kitty = AWESOME.

I like the print (Konad) but the color combo screams Halloween. Not cute for the month of May...
