Trick or Treat!

Hey guys!!!!

I am so sorry about not being able to post my Halloween manis on Friday but I’ve been stuck in bed with one hell of a cold. The kind of cold that makes you pray that you don’t die in your sleep! LOL I’m laughing now but it was pretty bad. I’m just glad I’m feeling well enough to blog again and post the last installment of my Halloween series.  Okay so to finish things off with a bang I have 2 more Halloween looks.

The first look was very easy to create. I used 2 coats of OPI’s Gargantuan Green Grape as a base and then topped it off with 2 more coats of OPI’s Zom-body to Love (a limited edition glow in the dark polish). I couldn’t bare to keep these plain so I stamped a witch’s hat on the ring finger and then bats all over. This ended up being so cute. I just wish I could have shown you how it glows in the dark. My 6 year old thought these were totally bad ass.

Boo!!!!

Next up is a Frankenstein mani. If you’re a polish freak like me then you know that there have been many variations of this manicure floating on the web. I figured I would give it a go. First I put 2 coats of Sally Hansen’s Lickety Split Lime (Insta-Dri) on my ring finger. Then I did 2 coats of China Glaze’s Grape Pop on the other nails. Using black acrylic paint I hand painted Frankenstein’s hair and mouth, the eyes were added using a dotting tool.  Using the same black acrylic paint, I then painted scars on the rest of my nails and voilà!

Well I had fun doing this series and I hope you did too. I’ll be sure to recreate one of these looks when I go trick or treating with my children tomorrow.

Be safe and don’t have too much candy!

What I've been up to...

Hi guys!

I just wanted to show you what I’ve been up to lately.

This interest in nail polish and nail art isn’t going away. If anything it’s only increasing! But even with the endless possibilities that lacquer offers, I wanted to gain more knowledge and find new ways to express myself creatively. Because at the end of the day this is exactly what nail art does for me. I know it sounds nuts but there’s so much more to polish than just slapping it on the nail and calling it a day. I dunno that I could ever find the right words to explain it, lol.

I have been doing some research on acrylic nails and have finally started practicing. The picture below is my very first set of acrylic nails. None of that pharmacy stuff. This is the real deal. My nose is still adjusting to the smell! lol It’s not perfect but for my very first time trying I am pretty darn pleased with myself. My sister Chachi (her nickname) was nice enough to let me use her as my guinea pig and I’m happy to report that she was also happy with the results. Hey if I had someone to do my nails for free I’d be happy too. Once I’ve mastered the basics I’ll be able to take my nail art to another level. I can’t wait to start practicing 3D acrylic nail art.  I already know it’s gonna be BANANAS! Well, they do say that practice makes perfect so I’m off to work on my craft. Talk to you guys later!

October's Luxe Box

Hey dear lovelies!

Today I’ll be showing you the contents of October’s Luxe Box. Now the reason why I didn’t blog or vlog about September’s box is basically because it just wasn’t anything worth writing home about in my opinion. The best item in the box that month was a sample sized bottle of Sèche Vite but this month’s box was actually cool.

Loose Buttons (who makes the Luxe Box) changed their packaging, everything now comes in a sleek black box which contained 5 products this time around:

a .03 oz. vial of Lise Watier’s Flash Lift Radiance

a tube of Olay’s PROx eye restoration complex

a 0.16 oz. tube of Kératase Versatile beautifying oil

a .05 oz. tube of Lise Watier lip gloss in Plumpissimo

a full sized bottle of Essie nail polish in Braziliant

The verdict:

I really liked this month’s box! I’ve always enjoyed Lise Watier products (thought I don’t always enjoy the price) and I am a major lip gloss junkie so the lip product was a win for me. Olay is also a brand that I’ve used (on and off) for a few years and anything to prevent wrinkles is a plus for me so I’m excited to try the restoration complex. Now you know that my favourite thing out of the whole box was the Essie polish. I love orange polish - and with pink shimmer?!? It don’t get much better than this. So this is it for me today, I hope this was helpful and nice change of pace from all the polish posts. I’m going to be putting some makeup tutorials together very shortly so feel free to drop me a line and let me know what kind of looks you guys would like to see.

Until next time!

Nicki Minaj OPI Nail Lacquer Collection 2012

OMG! Nicki is coming out with polish?!?! And it's OPI?!?!? LAWD! Okay, okay *attempts to stop hyperventilating*. I came across this bit of information and just had to share it. I can't wait for these to come out and I will most likely be scooping up the whole collection. *squeals like a school girl* Okay so I wouldn't necessarily give the Pink Friday album five stars (I just think Nicki's best tracks are featurings) but I do love me some Nicki Minaj and I am mucho excited about these. I can't wait to see the swatches.
Now you can now have Nicki Minaj at your fingertips, literally. Nicki has teamed up with OPI Nail Lacquer bringing lots of cute & fun colors for the barbz mittens.  “Super Bass Shatter, "Fly", “Metal 4 Life” & of course, “Pink Friday” (just to name a few). Available for purchase in 2012!

What do you think? Will you be getting any of these?

Halloween series - Take 2!

Hey guys!

Okay I’m continuing with my Halloween series and I’ll be showing you two manis today. They are both pretty easy to create and fun to wear. First look is a pumpkin themed manicure. I started with 2 coats of Sally Hansen’s Xtreme wear in Black Out. I then used a Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri in Snappy Sorbet to stamp on a cute pumpkin design. The little ghost from BM plate 223 was perfect for my ring finger.

Nothing to be scared of over here!

The second mani is something that I have seen all over the nail blogs. It’s a dripping blood mani. I used the same Sally Hansen polish in black and since this was just for the purpose of this blog post, I decided to use red acrylic paint. All you have to do is use a dotting tool and drag the paint along the free edge of the nail to make it look like dripping blood. I then added a skull to my ring finger with Konad special polish in white just to make things more interesting.

There you have it! Two cute Halloween looks that are perfect for costume parties or even for trick or treating with the kids.

Spook-arific!

Talk to you soon!

You gotta love an easy mani

Hola dear polish freaks!

I just wanted to show you a cute and simple combo that I wore a few weeks ago. I put down two even coats of China Glaze’s Urban-Night. Then I topped it off with Nubar 2010. I love that polish and really should try to wear it more often. Flakes on my polish? Yes please! I used my favourite top coat to seal it all in and voilà. Uber cute.

What’s not to like?

Kinda glittery eh?

Hey guys!

Yes I am alive and well. I was forced to take a little break from blogging after some stupid kids stole my iphone, which I had been using to take my nail pics but now that that’s been sorted out, I’m just trying to get back up to speed with all the posts I’ve put on hold. My Halloween series will resume this Friday and it will be a twofer to make up for last week.

Today I’ll be showing you the polish I wore to my friend’s birthday dinner this past Saturday (Hey Fed!). We went out to this little Jamaican restaurant and had some much needed girl time.

OPI’s Gone Gonzo! is only one off the 6 amazing glitters that make up the new Muppets collection.  When I saw it there in the display,  I stopped dead in my tracks and tried to play it off like I wasn’t dying to take a bottle home. I turn around only to  find Jon looking at me like “Oh would you just get the damn thing already?!?”.

Ahhhhhhh. Love at first glitter. I used Sally Hansen’s Blue Away as a base and added 3 coats of Gone Gonzo! – What?!? With glitter you either go big or go home man.

Glitterific!

 Talk to you guys soon!

A gift from my boy toy

Hello beauty freaks!

Okay so today I’ll be showing you a random swatch of a polish that my Honey picked out for me. This one actually ISN’T made by OPI which should make my little sister Mims pretty happy since she seem to be under the impression that I am an incurable  OPI whore. I have no clue what she’s talking about… *blank stare*

Revlon’s Ocean Breeze is a beautiful color (I’m not gonna bother trying to describe the shade, you have eyes, you see what it looks like!) and the cool thing about it is that it’s scented. The not so cool thing about it is that this particular polish kinda smells like house cleaner. Thankfully the smell does die down eventually. A fabulous shade nonetheless.

I think this would have been great with black shatter.

Enjoy,

Throwback post

Hola dear polish freaks!

Todays post is a throwback because I wore this polish a few months ago but am only getting around to posting pics of it now. OPI’s Big Hair, Big Nails is one of the sorbets shades that came out with OPI’s Texas collection for Spring 2011. This is the first sorbet polish that I’ve ever owned and though I prefer full opacity I decided to wear this polish on the sheer side like most people apparently do. This was two easy coats. You can still see the VNL (visible nail line) but it’s still a sexy shade to me.

Mmmmm…. Sorbet…. *Homer Simpson voice*

‘Til next time!

It's that time of the year!

Hi guys!

I hope everyone is doing well and I want to say hi to the new people following my blog. I truly appreciate you stopping by and checking me out.

Today officially kicks off my Halloween manicure series! I’ll be posting Halloween-themed manis every Friday this month. I know that there will be many parties and events to attend and I wanted to show you guys some cute looks to go with your Halloween outfits.

I actually rocked this first look at work and got many compliments on it. I started off with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out and a layer of Sèche Vite. Next I used French manicure guides to protect the half moon and just painted the rest of the nail with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Sun Kissed. Once all of that was dry I chose a spider design from a Bundle Monster plate and stamped cute little spiders on the index and ring finger.

So what you think about this look? Feel free to send me some suggestions for my next Halloween mani.

My spider senses are tingling…

Imitation is the highest form of flattery...

Hello beauty freaks!

The manicure I want to show you today was recreated after I saw it on one of my favorite blogs. Cristina from Let Them Have Polish is so talented and this mani was so cute I just had to try it for myself. I ended up using OPI’s Sparrow Me The Drama as a base and topped it off with Sally Hansen’s Snappy Sprinkle. The ring finger was left plain so that I could stamp on a cupcake using Konad’s special polish in white. I decided to add a pink rhinestone for added detail. Super cute.

*Edit: This picture is actually a throwback so please forgive the lighting.

Shout out to Cristina at Let Them Have Polish!

Gotta love short nails and dark polish!

Okay so I’m still on a dark polish kick (I just love dark polish on short nails!) so today I am rocking China Glaze’s Branding Iron from the Rodeo Diva collection. I own a few of the shades from that fall collection and they are all awesome. Branding Iron applies like a dream. Super cute.

Which dark polish have you been rockin’ lately?

Brown all around!

Hey guys!

My short nails along with the weather got me craving dark colors so today I’ll be showing you something new. Brownstone is one of the 12 shades promoted in China Glaze’s latest collection called Metro and it is lovely! I guess you could say it was love at first sight with this one. The warmth of the shade and the fact that its unlike anything I have in my collection made this a very easy purchase. Maybe too easy… but that is neither here nor there.

Application was a breeze so this polish is a total win as far as I’m concerned. I wish I had pictures of it before I went nuts and stamped the crap out of this mani but I forgot (Scrangie has awesome pics of it though). I wanted to do something subtle so I stamped a flower design with Konad’s special polish in gold. I was pleased with the final result.

What do you think?
